1:  How long have you been in business?

Decorating Den Interiors is a family-owned franchise company started in 1969.  20 years ago, I purchased my franchise with the goal of providing Central PA homes and business owners with beautifully decorated spaces that are tailored to their unique style and personality.

2:  Where are you located?

I’ve been serving the Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, Enola and Camp Hill areas since 1998.

3:  Are you a certified interior decorator?

I’ve studied for and passed the Certified Interior Decorator (CID) and Window Fashions Certified Professional (WFCP) examinations.  As the only WFCP certified professional in Central PA, I’ve joined an elite group of professionals who offer access to the industry’s most cutting-edge designs and products.

4.  How does Decorating Den Interiors work?

Decorating Den Interiors is a unique concept. I come to your home bringing you an array of samples of window treatments, furniture, flooring and accessories that I purchase directly from the manufacturer. I will help you select everything in your own home, with your own lighting, and with furnishings you’d like to keep. For every new client, my initial product consultation is complimentary. If your project is large, requiring multiple products, floor plans, or renderings, a retainer will be required.  This fee will be fully applied toward the creation of your floor plan, rendering or product(s) purchased. Then, for any following appointments, you pay only for the items you select, as long as we are choosing from one of my many suppliers. I do offer additional services at an hourly rate, which may include: space planning, formulating “ideas”, hanging your existing pictures, arranging existing accessories, paint selection, as well as personal shopping for remodeling projects. When your order is ready, I come back with my team and install everything for you, then have you and your family come in for the BIG REVEAL at the end! It is a fun and efficient process for my clients, and you get all the design services for FREE!

Decorating Den Interiors is a full-service interior decorating firm with access to well over 135 top quality manufacturers of home furnishings.  I TAKE THE RISK OUT OF DECORATING:  As a multiple award-winning designer, I have the experience, training and imagination to create window treatments or design whole rooms that fit your design needs.  I select the best colors, materials, textures, fabrics, finishes and furniture and keep you from making an expensive decorating mistake.    I VALUE YOUR TIME: That’s why I come to you—your home or your office—at your convenience!  Decisions are made right there, where we can coordinate with existing furnishings.  IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU: I listen to you to create a design plan that suits your home, your needs, your lifestyle and I offer you design options you may never have thought of.  I’LL WORK WITHIN YOUR BUDGET:  Our initial consultation is always complementary and I’ll tailor your design to meet your design budget.   PROFESSIONAL DESIGN SERVICE: I will proudly and efficiently handle every detail of your project—from our initial design consultation to installation.  No running from store to store or spending hours surfing the web trying to coordinate fabrics, paint, furniture and accessories…no lost weekends.  You just need to sit back and enjoy.

6:  What products do you offer?

My extensive selection includes furniture, window treatments, closet and storage systems, shades and blinds, wall coverings, rugs, carpeting, lighting, bedding, outdoor furnishings and accessories.

7:  Will working with a decorator be expensive?

Working with an-award winning, proven decorator will save you money.  It has been my experience that people who work with a design professional save money by avoiding making expensive mistakes that they cannot afford to correct.  Or they purchase furnishings on a whim— “I liked it in the store”—but found that they are never able to make it work in their home.  I will design a solid plan of action for decorating your home that will prevent you from purchasing unsuitable or unneeded pieces.

I purchase home furnishings and accessories directly from the manufacturer at wholesale, and sell them to you at a reasonable profit just like any reputable store.  I have simple, straight-forward pricing; I do not mark up the “retail price” only to mark it down on a “sale”.

Aside from saving you money, working with a decorator will also save you hours of frustration and stress — which undoubtedly is priceless.

8:  What happens at my first appointment?

At your initial complimentary consultation you’ll have the opportunity to share your vision for your home, tell me about your likes, dislikes, hobbies, interests, and family because your story is my inspiration for creating a space that fits your dreams, personality and goals.  In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to share your financial plan for your project, or if you haven’t established a plan, or are not sure what it will cost, I will help you establish a budget based on the quality and style of the furnishings you’re planning on purchasing.  This is also your chance to get a sense of my approach in creating a decorating plan for your home.  I’ll take measurements, digital photos and gather anything else I’ll need to coordinate your decorating plan.  From this point, the appointment will vary depending on the scope of the project. If you just have a few windows to cover, we might finish on the first appointment. If we are doing a whole room, it could take several appointments before we have fine-tuned all the design elements.

9:  What happens at my second appointment?

On our second appointment I will bring fabric samples, design drawings, wallpaper and/or paint swatches, and other items needed to help you visualize your personalized design.  Most of my clients are thrilled with their customized design plan, but a few want to make alterations. I’m more than happy to make any changes—after all, I want YOUR home to reflect YOU.  Once you approve your plan, you set the pace for ordering your furnishings.  You may want an all-at-once total makeover, or you may prefer a phased approach to implementing the design plan—it’s completely up to you.

10:  Will you work with my existing furnishings?

Of course! I can move items from other rooms, keep furniture just the way it is, tweak the design with a few selected options; your project is what you want it to be.

11:  Is there ever an hourly fee?

I do not charge hourly fees as long as you are purchasing products from me.  There are rare times when I offer services at an hourly rate.  These services may include:  space planning, formulating “ideas”, hanging your existing pictures, arranging your existing accessories, selecting paint colors as well as personal shopping for remodeling projects.

12.  How do I determine a budget for my project?

I offer good, better, best pricing and quality for all products I provide. Just like cars, some people are comfortable with a Chevy, others prefer a Bentley. Sometimes the same client will want better quality in one room with a less expensive option for another.  You’ll need to be realistic; I am not competing with discount furniture stores or with that type of low quality product.  There are times when your investment goals do not match the needs of the project. If this happens, I will work with you to adjust the project scope or establish a plan to execute the project in phases.

13:  Do you offer closet and storage systems?

Yes.  I provide innovative designs for every space.  The combinations are limitless and my extensive, stylish design options range from traditional to contemporary.  The endless configuration options achieve multiple uses such as pantries, mudrooms, laundry, offices, wall beds, media centers, garages and, of course, reach-in and walk-in closets.

14:  Do you execute remodel projects?

No, but I will work with you and your contractor to pull-together the design details such as the selection of constructional elements like hardware, granite, finishes, paint colors, etc., at an hourly rate.  If you do not have a contractor that you’d like to use for the labor, I am happy to refer you to one of my trusted contractors. My service for this type of assistance is charged by the hour.

15:  Will my decorator go shopping with me at local stores?

No. I offer all the resources you will need to complete your decorating project. For items I am unable to provide—constructional elements for remodeling projects such as sinks, bath tubs, etc.—I’d be happy to go shopping with you, at an hourly rate.

16:  What if I order something and I don’t like it after it comes in?

In my 19 years in business, I have had only a hand full of items that did not meet my client’s exceptions.  Upholstered furniture and case goods are custom order just for you and for the most part they are not returnable.  Again, this has rarely been an issue other than with a few accessories that were not custom ordered.  In the rare occasion that an item is defective, it will be will be repaired or replaced at no cost to you.

17:  Do you decorate commercial spaces?

Yes, I design commercial interiors—business reception areas, condo common areas, professional offices & conference rooms, hospitality facilities, funeral homes, health-care facilities, country clubs, restaurants, retail showrooms, hotels, salons and spas. My goal is to provide you with the perfect interior solution that reflects the level of success your business has achieved.

18:  Do you provide window treatments?

Decorating Den Interiors is Central PA’s premier custom drapery and window treatment specialist. As Central PA’s only Window Fashions Certified Professional (W.F.C.P.) I’m uniquely qualified to create solutions for problem windows—oddly shaped, two-story, off-balance or dissimilarly sized windows. I’ll resolve your issue with a problem window by creating a beautiful solution that expresses your personality and style.  Whether you purchase custom window treatments, shades, or blinds, I provide professional installation to be sure that your window treatments are installed to perfection.

Our Custom Window Treatments are made to Fit Your Windows Perfectly

They’re made to our exact specifications.  Quality standards are loose when mass produced; up to 1″ in varying length is considered passable, so one side of your panel may touch the floor while the other side is too short.  Our elite workrooms specialize in crafting impeccably tailored designs and their quality is 100% guaranteed.

Our Custom Draperies are Luxurious, Not Skimpy

Ready-made and budget draperies skimp on the amount of fabric used to make the panels—using only 1 ½ to 2 times fullness.  Our custom draperies are 2 ½ to 3 times fullness and have the sumptuousness that make the treatment beautiful.  Panel width should be wider than the window they dress.  That means that you’ll need two, three or even more panels per side to have the right proportion to the window.

Window Treatments are Pattern Matched

Ready-made valances and other toppers are made individually and panels are not made in pairs, so the pattern will not align when they are placed side-by-side.  Custom treatments are made to pattern match so that the fabric motif is centered on each section of valances, swags and cornices, and individual treatments match each other.  Custom panels are made in pairs and the pattern on each panel is aligned.

We’ll resolve your issue with a problem window by creating a beautiful solution that expresses your personality and style.  You can’t resolve these issues with ready-mades.

What you Don’t see Makes all the Difference

A properly selected drapery lining adds body to your draperies and protects the fabric from the sun.  Ready-made treatment are often unlined or made with skimpy lining leading to limp, easily sun-damage treatments.  We offer you substantially thicker lining, black-out lining, napped lining, and interlining to create a luxurious design that will protect your investment.

Details, Details, Details

We offer the most beautiful trimmings—gimps, tapes, braids, fringes, tassels and tiebacks—to add a special finishing touch to your window treatment.  You don’t have fine detailing with ready-made treatments.

Hardware

With ready-made treatments, you’ll need to purchase the hardware you’ll need for its installation, apart from the cost of the treatment.  The hardware needed to support your design is important to both its design and function. That’s why the hardware—poles, finials, brackets and rings that are needed to hang your window treatments are included in the price of your design.

Professional Installation

Designing and fabricating your window treatment isn’t the end.  Hanging the treatment is often a complex engineering feat.  With custom treatments, you don’t have to worry about what kind of brackets to get, how far the treatment will project, what to do if you can’t find a stud and the many other challenges that will come up when you’re doing the installation yourself.  Our professional installers are equipped with the right tools and the right skills and they know the tricks to ensure that your treatments are not only gorgeous but are properly supported.  They’ll steam and dress your treatments to hang beautifully and lay properly.
